Christians from all over the world celebrate Easter on Sunday, April 20. This event marks a moment when the entire universe changed forever. The timeless message of Easter has something to tell us today in our tumultuous, noisy and fearful world.

If he saw an Easter exhibition in a store, I might think that Eaaster has to do with delicious sweets, new clothes, fragrant lilies, favorite meals and exciting music. Those things are part of our celebration, but they are not the point.

Easter celebrates the amazing statement that Jesus Christ was resurrected from among the dead. Executed on Good Friday, lay in a grave, dead stone dead. But on the first Easter morning about 2,000 years ago, Jesus got up and left his grave full of new life.

It was such a scandalous idea that now. If you read the Bible, you will find this story in the four gospels. It is clear that the disciples could not understand in this event, which challenged the reality they expected. They were confused. Chaos ruled.

In the Count of San Juan of Easter History (John Chapter 20), Mary Magdalene appears first. She is there to take care of the corpse of the rabbi and the Lord required, but everything she finds is an empty tomb. She can’t make sense. Then men appear. They are also confused. It is more chaos.

Then Mary Magdalene meets the risen Jesus Christ outside the tomb. He speaks to him, and realizes that love has triumphed over evil and even death. Seeing the other disciples, she is the first person to testify to the resurrection. “I’ve seen the Lord,” she says. At that moment, she witnesses the witnesses, the apostle of the apostles.

Mary Magdalene’s witness is going through chaos and the confusion of her time. In a world in which almost everyone expected death to reign and could be unstoppable, Maria saw her love love and told the world.

Easter morning ran a chaotic week in the life of Jesus, a week in which he entered Jerusalem with screams of Hosanna and Palm branches. He had a tender meal with his closest followers and one of them challenged him. He was arrested, judged and convicted. Finally, he was publicly executed in the most humiliating and painful way that the authorities devised.

That first Holy Week suddenly turned and betrayal. Secular and religious authorities who were only “doing their job” knowingly sentenced to an innocent man until death. Jesus’ internal circle was confused and fearful. Everything was out of control, except for Jesus himself, who was the quiet center.

The Easter message reminds us that our world is defined not by power and evil, but by grace and mercy.

And yet, chaos was not the end. Evil did not win. Death was not definitive. In that first Easter morning, when Jesus went up, everything was different.

Love won, not evil. It was shown that life was eternal, not limited. Grace and mercy pierced chaos and fear.

That is still true today. Grace and mercy can cross chaos and fear of our time.

People throughout the political spectrum agree that our world is a disaster. The division abounds. Violence seems to grow as cancer. Many people fear the future. The headlines proclaim Pandemonium. What should we do?

Today, as was true 2,000 years ago, Jesus is the quiet center. They love them and are ready to sacrifice the peace that passes all understanding.

The Easter message reminds us that our world is defined not by power and evil, but by grace and mercy. Easter reminds us of what is more true about our world. Easter reminds us that we do not need to fear death or anything else.

We can resort to Jesus at any time, and he will welcome us to his loving hug. He called Mary Magdalene, and she saw him for what she was. He can call any of us, and we see him who hey is.

Find your way to church, a place where common people try to discover what you should follow Jesus Christ as a loving Lord. There you will meet people who work hard to reconcile the Eertenal love of God with the earthly chaos with which we all hold. There, in the Church, you can meet Jesus.

Jesus is triumphant of love. He is abounding grace. He is mercy incessantly. He is risen.

Happy Easter, friends! Alleluia!
