Tyler Shaugh is the first (and only) quarterback that came from the board in the second round of the NFL design of 2025 was one of the biggest surprises of day 2.
After he has been set up at number 40 by the New Orleans Saints, Shouse can stand in line to immediately start with the persistent shoulder print Van Derek Carr, making his status before 2025 uncertain.
Following the seven -year -old university career, Shegh (pronounced as “shuck”) should be more than ready. In 25 years and 209 days old, he is the fourth oldest QB that is selected before the sixth round in modern NFL concept history. He is the oldest QB that is being drawn up since Brandon Weeden, who was 28 when the browns took him in the first round of the 2012 design.
The history of QBs drawn up after changing 25 is not great, but maybe should that trend buck.
Interesting is that he is older than at least 12 quarterbacks that are expected to start in 2025. Here is a look at that list, along with the current age of every QB and when and where they were drawn up.
- Cam Ward, 22 years old, no. 1 General in 2025, Tennessee Titans
- Caleb Williams, 23, no. 1 General in 2024, Chicago Bears
- Jayden Daniels, 24, no. 2 General in 2024, Washington Commandants
- Drake Maye, 22, no. 3 General in 2024, New England Patriots’
- Michael Penix Jr., 24, no. 8 General in 2024, Atlanta Falcons
- JJ McCarthy, 22, no. 10 General in 2024, Minnesota Vikings
- Bo NX, 25, no. 12 General in 2024, Denver Broncos
- Bryce Young, 23, no. 1 General in 2023, Carolina Panthers
- CJ Stud, 23, no. 2 General in 2023, Houston Texans
- Anthony Richardson, 22, no. 4 General in 2023, Indianapolis Colts
- Brock Purdy, 25, no. 262 General in 2022, San Francisco 49ers
- Trevor Lawrence, 25, no. 1 General in 2021, Jacksonville Jaguars
So how did Shegh come here?
Well, he was eleven a four -star recruit from Arizona who started his university career at Oregon. After bringing his first season and Justin Herbert in his second limited by supporting injuries.
Shouch then moved to Louisville before the 2024 season and enjoyed the healthiest and most productive of his career.
