Shedeur Sanders isn’t a ‘blockbuster’ pick but Browns are ‘excited to work with him’

The Cleveland Browns shocked many observers around the NFL when they did not take Shedersur Sanders during the first two days of the design.

After he had passed him on to six chances, the browns finally ended the largest drama of the design by taking Sanders with the 144th General Pick Saturday.

“I can’t talk about market prices as it did,” said general director Andrew Berry after the selection of Sanders. “Eleven was about to have a pretty steep discount – this was the most logical.

“It is a man who we think can produce his design slot,” Berry added. “I would say no more than that. … Our expectation is that he will eat and work and competence here. Nothing is promised. Nothing will be given.

“I can hesitate to categorize it as a ‘blockbuster’, because that is not necessary how we have thought of the transaction, but we are pleased to work with him.”

Sanders, who described Berry as ‘good, solid prospect of the must -important position’, was prepared by Cleveland this weekend and the 14th since the Browns returned to the competition in 1999.

Cleveland started the design by acting from the second general place, where Jacksonville Sanders’ teammate and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter took. They ended their concept to trade to grab Sanders and sent the picks of the fifth and sixth round to Seattle.

Although not much expects the browns to take a second quarterback, Berry was a compliant over Sanders on Friday evening. “It’s less about where you are being picked and what you do after you have been picked,” he said.

Sanders joins a Browns Quarterback room that is in Flux. The days of Deshaun Watson in Cleveland are called because he may miss the entire season 2025 while he recovers from a torn Achilles -Tees who suffered in January. That happened only three months after he initially insulted it against Cincinnati.

Cleveland this month the silence of Joe Flacco, who in 2023 went 4-1 as a starter and led the browns to the play-offs for the third time since their return. They also acquire former Steelers First-Round Draft Pick Kenny Pickett in a trade with Philadelphia at the start of the free desk on March 12.

On Friday they selected Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel in the third round.

None of them creates the same buzz – positive or negative – as Sanders.

Although Flacco has the experience, and a cult hero has led to browns fans for coming off the bank and the team led to a berth after the season, Berry said that his meaning did not play a factor in their concept decions.

“We are firmly convinced that it is not about choosing a player who is ready to contribute now, it is about finding the player you think it will be the best if you have access to that player,” he said. “Quarterbacks mature and grow at their own pace and our thought is not in therms of directness, but making the next long -term bet.”

Flacco said earlier this week that he would not look at the design and that he did not only see himself as a mentor in the Quarterback room.

“I have played a lot of football, and I have many different experiences, and there is a certain way I see it, and there is a certain way in which I can talk about footwork and read and Phose things, and I think it will naturally come forward,” he said. “I think if you just have a competitive, good quarterback room, you don’t really have to worry about being a mentor. You just do a bit. You compete and you have fun and conversations come and everyone learns from it.”

SANDERS – The son of the Pro Football Hall of Famer Dion Sanders – is also not lacking and says during his professional day in Colorado “wherever I go, it will certainly be an improvement than what it was before I got tea.”

In what is considered a weak quarterback class, Sanders was projected by many as the second best prospect of the position after Miami (Fla.)

In the past month, however, opinions on the map have been on the map, making it the most polarizing prospect of the design. The biggest concerns about Sanders’ arm power and that he was not doing well in interviews with subsub teams during the pre-Draft process.

Sanders set a single-season records in Colorado last year, while the Buffaloes only made a bowl game the third time since 2008. He passed 4,134 Yards, 37 TouchDowns and was accouted for 41 total touchdowns in route to the BIG 12’s attacking player of the year and a second team selection on the AP All-America team.

In 50 collegial competitions in Jackson State and Colorado, Shedeur Sanders threw 14,347 Yards, with 134 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. I completed 70.1% of his passes and drove for 17 more scores.

In addition to Armstang, the decision -making of Sanders on the field has also been investigated. He took 94 bags in the past two seasons in Colorado, the most through a quarterback in the subdivision of the football bowl.

Coach Kevin Stefanski said that there will be an open competition between all fourbacks during the training camp. Although Stefanski has 11 quarterbacks that start at least one match during his first five seasons in Cleveland, this is the first time that the starting point is not arranged in the summer.
