India will not allow the export of wheat, even if the government acquisition leaves the target or 31.3 million tons (MT), since the priority is to reinforce the actions and restore the normal assignment through ration stores, said a senior official.

The center had banned wheat exports in May 2022 to control prices, after a slight fall in national production and a strong decrease in the official acquisition of the central pool. But he continued exporting in humanitarian field and for diplomatic reasons to friendly countries in government to government applications, thought in limited amounts.

“We know that wheat production is better this year as well as acquisition. But the first priority is still to replace damping actions to a comfortable level so we can sell 6-7 million tons, if necessary,” said a government, “said a government,” said a government.

Besighes, there is also the need to readjust the assignment of wheat rice under the National Food Safety Law, since some beneficiaries were offered rice instead of wheat due to the acquisition of wheat with less option in recent years. If the government completely restores the right as it was in 2022 before the changes were made, additional 3.5-4 tm of wheat will be required per year, authorities said.

The Government had sold approximately 3 TM of wheat in the open market through an auction and by releasing cooperatives in 2024-25, while sales were almost 10 TM in 2023-24.

AFTER 2021-22 WHEN THE CENTER PROCURED RECORD 43.34 MT OF WHEAT, PROCUREMENT HAS BEEN CONTINUOUSLY MISSING THE TARGET IN THE LAST THREE YEARS AS THE GOVERNATION COUL BUY 18.79 MT IN 2022-23 (TARGET 44.4 MT), 26.2 MT1 IN 2023 IN 2023 IN 2023 IN 2023 IN 2023 IN 2023.2 in in 2023 in in 2023 in in 2023 in in 2023 in in 2023, in in 2023, in 2023, in in 2023, in 2023, in in 2023, in in 2023, in 2023, in 2023, 2024-25 (objective 37.3 Mt).

But in the current season, the Government already bought 19.86 MT until April 24 compared to 13.58 TM in the previous year, 46 percent more. The objective is to buy 31.27 TM of wheat this year, since the Ministry of Agriculture estimates the production of wheat in the record of 115.43 TM during the year of culture 2024-25 (July-June), compared to 113.29 mt in 2023-24.

India had exported 4.7 TM of wheat worth $ 1.52 billion in 2022-23, since it allowed the amount that was hired before the prohibition was announced. However, shipments fell to 0.19 TM in 2023-24 and more to only 2,749 tons of April-February 2024-25.

The prohibition was announced when the country prepared to position itself as an important credible global provider after there was a record export of 7.23 TM Wheat worth $ 2.12 billion in 2021-22.

According to the data of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, there was a 2.5 percent jump in retail prices and a 3.6 percent increase in Atta rates, April 2025 since the previous year. The average average wheat price of the entire India was ₹ 34.34/kg and Atta was ₹ 40.17/kg duration from April 1 to 27, as officials show.

The action in the hands of the Indian Food Corporation (FCI) was 11.79 TM on April 1 compared to 7.5 MT Year-Ago and the damping or 7.46 TM standard.
