The Solvent Extractors Association of India (Sea) has predicted a drastic reduction in the production of ricino seeds by 2024-25.

The second estimate of the production of seed seeds for the 2024-25 season, which was made by Indian Agribusiness Systems Ltd (Agriwatch), has evaluated the production of ricino seeds in 15.6 Lakh Tons (LT) in the first against. The production of Ricino seeds of India was estimated at 19.76 LT in the 2023-24 season.

For example, Mehta, Executive Director of Sea, attributed this decrease to the climatic conditions of the advertiser in the main growth states of India.

High temperatures of February

He said that growing temperatures since February have severely affected crop yields, specifically late and re-sembraded crops. Lower yields were recorded in key growth districts in Gujarat and Rajasthan, he said.

The Glory surface in the country decreased to 8.68 Lakh hectares (LH) in the 2024-25 season of 9.88 LH in 2023-24, registering a decrease or 12 percent. Let it have estimated the yield at 1,796 kg per hectare in the country during the 2024-25 season (2000 kg per hectare in 2023-24).

Gujarat area down

It is expected that the low-rich seed area in Gujarat, which is the main producer in the country, decreases to 6.46 LH in 2024-25 of 7.24 LH in 2023-24. Castorseed production in Gujarat is expected to be 12.26 LT in 2024-25 (15.74 LT), a decrease or 22 percent.

He attributed this fall at higher than normal temperatures. This accelerated the maturity of the crop and the reduced yields, he said. The sea has estimated the yield at 1,897 kg per hectare in Gujarat during the 2024-25 season (2174 kg per hectare).

Rajasthan production looks 13% lower

Rajasthan production is checked down to 2.71 LT in 2024-25 (3.13 LT), which is a decrease or 13.41 % that last year. The area under the crop is estimated at 1.70 LH (1.92 LH).

Mehta said that the sudden increase in temperatures in Rajasthan affected yields despite the good water availability through the irrigation of the channel. The sea has estimated the yield at 1,594 kg per hectare in Rajasthan during the 2024-25 season (1,630 kg per hectare).

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are expected to produce 54,000 tons of ricino seeds in 2024-25 compared to 80,200 tons in 2023-24. It attributed this decrease to the decrease in the area under the crop of 60,100 hectares in 2023-24 to 37,500 hectares in 2024-25.

The final estimates will be updated after the next round of surveys scheduled for May 2025, he added.
