Team USA to be coached by Duke’s Kara Lawson at FIBA Women’s AmeriCup

Kara Lawson is about to add another bullet point to an impressive summarizing with the use of basketball.

The organization announced on Tuesday that the basketball coach for Duke Women will be the main coach for Team USA at the Fiba Women’s Americanup this summer in Chile. Assisting Lawson at the tournament held on 28 June to 6 July, are the old Dominion coach Delisha Milton-Jones and Jennie Baranczyk from Oklahoma.

Lawson has won three Olympic gold medals with Team USA. She was the head coach of the 3×3 team that won in Tokyo in 2021, an assistant coach at the 5×5 team that won in Paris last summer, and she won the gold about the player in the 2008 team. In the course of her various coaching rolls with Team USA, Lawson has a record of 75-5.

“It is a gift that I have given over the years about player, as a committee member and as a coach,” Lawson added. “I have always tried to have competence and to give my best in the different roles I have received. That will not change this summer. The goal is anticipating the journey together while we are still having a gold medal for the United States.”

A product from the University of Tennessee, where she played under the legendary Pat Summitt, Lawson left its fifth season at the helm of the Duke Blue Devils, who marked their best season in more than a decade. Duke won the ACC Tournament title and went to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2013.

The Americans won silver on the Fiba American 2023, which fell to Brazil in the title game. That team mainly contained college stars, such as Angel Reese, Rickea Jackson, Lauren Betts, leaves Kelly, Rayah Marshall and Raven Johnson. Kamie Ethridge van Washington State was the coach of that team.

The US has won four American gold medals, with the most recent arrival in 2021, with a team powered by Rhyne Howard, Aliyah Boston and Elissa Cunane.

In the coming tournament, team use will be in group B with Chile, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
