President Donald Trump’s secretary, Howard Lutnick, suggested on Sunday that reciprocal rates exemptions for some electronic products can be short -lived, and said that separate tariffs for these products are “coming son.”

“They are exempt from reciprocal tariffs, but they are included in semiconductor rates, which are reaching probabilities of one or two months,” Lutnick said in ABC News “” This week. “

“So this is not like a kind of permanent exemption. [Trump’s] It only clarifies that these are not available to be negotiated by countries, “he said.

Lutnick added: “These are things that are national security that we must do in the United States.”

Lutnick’s comments throw cold water with the hope that popular technological products manufactured in China, such as computers, laptops, smartphones and flat panel televisions, would be saved from reciprocal tariffs of 145% of Trump that increase prices for us.

They also add more confusion about Trump’s tariff policy, which has changed repeatedly. Democratic legislators said Sunday that the changes are causing “chaos” and a “credibility crisis” for Trump.

Customs and border protection of the United States on Friday night announced exemptions for smartphones, computers and other devices and technological components of Trump’s reciprocal rates. A 20% tariff over all Chinese products is still valid.

Lutnick on Sunday emphasized that the United States “cannot be artistic in foreign countries for fundamental things we need.”

The United States commercial representative Jamieson Greer, in an attempt to clarify why the exemptions were made, said Sunday that “they are not really an exception,” he even thought that the Trump executive order signed an exception of exemptions. Entitled is partial “” “

“What happened is that this type of supply chain moved from the rate regime for the global rate, the reciprocal rate, and moved to the national security rate regime,” Greer said in CBS News “” Face the Nation. “

The exemptions of reciprocal rates had initially brought a sigh of relief for the main technological companies, including Applethat manufacturers owe their products in China.

But Democratic Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey said the confusion sowed the reversal of the Trump administration on Friday night on reciprocal tariffs on some electronics from China, and its sudden called Wednesday for a 90 -day pause to enforce the new tariffs is harmful.

“President Trump now has a credibility crisis,” he said in an interview on Sunday at NBC News, “Gather the Press. “” We are listening to everyone. People simply know if they can trust him. “

Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass..

“Investors will not invest in the United States when Donald Trump plays red light, green light with tariffs.”
