Tremendous growth

The manufacture of mobile phones of India has seen tremendous growth in the last 10 years with the main smartphone manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung making India a center to make its devices.

Exports of mobile phones of India have crossed a historical maximum of ₹ 2 Lakh million rupees in fiscal year 2015, marking a 55 percent growth over the ₹ 1.29 Lakh Crore registered in fiscal year 2014.

In a historic first, smartphones have now also become the largest export product in India (smartphones now occupy the first place among the main export products of India), indicating a success of ‘Make in India’ unprecedented.

According to the Association of Cell Phones and Electronic of India (ICEA), this phenomenal increase in exports is mainly based on the strategic implementation of the linked incentive scheme (PLI) of production, which has transformed India into one of the faster Werld.

“The scheme has attracted substantial global investments, improving the competitiveness, scale and capacity of India to integrate deeply into the global value chains (GVC). The export impulse is led by global companies such as Apple and Samsung, which have expanded their manufacturing operations significantly in India,” Icea said.

As a result, it is estimated that the production of mobile phones from India reached ₹ 5.25 Lakh million rupees in fiscal year 2015, more important than ₹ 4.22 Lakh Crore in the previous fiscal year, he added.
