Could Lionel Messi’s potential re-signing with Inter Miami mean he could play in the 2026 World Cup?

Lionel Messi can stay in pink and black for the near future. David Ornstein of the Athletic reports that Messi is close to adding contract extension with Inter Miami CF.

The 37-year-old Messi, who arrived in Inter Miami in July 2023, will lapse his current contract at the end of this year. The team that you have worked hard to extend its time in Zuid -Florida in an attempt to let Messi lead the club to their new stadium, Miami Freedom Park, next season.

Inter Miami Managing Owner Jorge Mas told FDP Radio Miami that the boxes are progressing and he hopes that it will end with Messi who agrees to extend his time with the club. “My hope has always been – and everything we do – is to play in our new stadium in 2026. Hopefully that will happen,” he was Toled FDP Radio Miami.

Lionel Messi who stayed with Inter Miami was a huge boost for Major League Soccer, who hopes to take advantage of the player who considered many the best to play the game. It would also mean a lot to sponsors of the competition, in particular Apple and Adidas, to be Uble to continue the participation of the market in the competition on the world. For Inter Miami this means that their captain could end the year with the club in their temporary stadium, Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

The club is expected to move to Miami Freedom Park, their new stadium that is a stone’s throw from Miami International Airport and 25,000 people will take place on time for the start of the 2026 season, and having Lionel Messi in the team will be the biggest boost for the ticket sale.

FIFA also hopes that a contract extension means that the time of Messi was not done with the national team of Argentina Eithher. The World Cup 2026 – which starts in June in the United States, Canada and Mexico – includes competitions in Miami, and playing Messi in the World Cup would be a great opportunity to show the competition. What does an expansion with Inter Miami Wouled signal for many he will play in the World Cup next summer.

Although many are increasingly trusting that the deal is being done for a contract extension, there is still work to turses.
