Maryland Sen. Van Hollen to visit El Salvador to check on mistakenly deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia

The Maryland senator, Chris Van Hollen, will travel to El Salvador on Wednesday, since Kilmar Abrego García, whom immigration officials admitted that he was deported by mistake, remains detained in a prison there.

Mondays, Van Hollen requested to meet With Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele while visiting Washington, DC this week. The senator also said he was prepared to go to El Salvador if Abrego García is not returned to the United States.

Van Hollen said he waits To visit Abrego García and “verify his well -being.”

“After its kidnapping and illegal deportation, the Federal Courts of the United States ordered the safe return of my constituent Kilmar Abrego García to the United States,” said Van Hollen in a statement. “It should be a priority of the US government. UU. Ensure its safe release, so tomorrow I travel to El Salvador. I hope you visit Kilmar and verify your well -being and hold constructive conversations. Kilmar safely to Maryland.”

In a letter, from Hollen that hey “urgently” horses to meet with the stomach this week. Hey also said that Abrego García should never have been deported, and should not spend another day at the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) in El Salvador.

Abrego García was arrested by ICE in March after leaving his job as a sheet metal in Baltimore. According to the judicial documents, ICE admitted that the deportation of Abrego García was Due to an “administrative error”, But the initial did not take measures to return to the United States, Abrego García has no criminal record and has never been accused of a crime in the United States or El Salvador.

ICE officials argued that Abrego García was a danger to the community and was an active member of the gang at MS-13.

Judicial Sallings on the return of Abrego Garcia

On April 1, Judge Paula Xinis ruled that the deportation of Abrego García was illegal and ordered the Trump administration to facilitate his return before April 7.

The Trump administration appealed the ruling before the 4th Circuit Court of the United States, which confirmed the Order of Xinis. The Department of Justice then sought a stay in the Supreme Court, which was granted by the President of Justice John Roberts, stopping the return deadline.

On April 10, the Supreme Court issued a unanimous decision, defending the order of Judge Xinis that requires the Trump administration to bring Abrego García to the United States.

President of El Salvador: “I’m not going to do it”

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele said the duration of a visit to the White House on Monday that Abrego García won to the United States.

The Attorney General told reporters that “it depends on El Salvador” to decide if he is released from prison.

“How can I return it to the United States?” Bukele said. “I consider it smuggled in the United States or what do I do? Of course, I will not do it. The question is absurd.”

According to CBS News, Bukele described Abrego García as a “terrorist” and added: “I don’t have power over the United States.”
