“If you want to make everything happy, don’t be a leader, sell frozen.” This famous appointment of the late co -founder and CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, was originally on leadership, but was invoked by the Association of Manufacturers of Hele in fact (IICMA) of India, who held her meeting with the Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman Cream.

Currently, ice cream attracts 18 percent of GST, while IICMA requests that 5 percent be reduced. In its presentation, the association argued that, since the sweets of Indian milk are taxed at 5 percent and 5 or 12 percent flavor milk, ice cream should not differently taxes.

“The formulation of milk and flavor ice cream is quite similar. The main ingredients are fat, non -fatty milk (SNF).

Based on the recommendation of the GST Council at its meeting held on September 17, 2021, the Central Board of Indirect and Customs Taxes (CBIC) clarified that the ice cream sold by a room or any similar exit would attract at a rate of 18 per center. The industry estimates that the total GST collection in ice cream will be around ₹ 3,600 million rupees.

“The GST reduction from 18 percent to 5 percent can lead to a loss of treasure of approximately ₹ 2.6 billion rupees,” said the association.

“We maintain that this will also lead to an increase in ice cream consumption, and the general loss for treasure can be minimal. Let’s utter that it will also minimize the evasion of GST in ice cream,” he argued.

According to the association, a common erroneous idea persists that ice cream is a luxury product. “We must affirm that more than 80 percent of the ice cream consumed in India has a price of less than ₹ 30 per portion. In fact, there are several products with a price of ₹ 5 to ₹ 10. The ice cream industry has assured that the country”, It Itals.

In addition, the luxury image is based on niche outlets and premium courses, which represent a very small fraction of total sales volumes. These courses do not charge only for ice cream, but for the environment and general experience.

He argued that ice cream is a nutritional product that provides essential nutrients such as proteins, fats and energy, and plays an important role to address malnutrition. For growing children and malnourished populations, it can serve as an accessible source of proteins, fats and calories.

“We maintain that ice cream should not be seen simply as a pleasure, but also as a complementary nutritional food. A lower GST rate encourages broader consumption and supports public health objectives,” said the association.

Connecting ice cream consumption with happiness, the association concluded its case by stating: “A reduced tax rate can help promote emotional well -being and elevation, especially the extreme climatic conditions that ice cream has more demand.”
