In the middle of a strong fall in the levels of use of recycling capacity after manufacturers of domestic electronic goods challenge the rules of electronic waste management in the courts, the Association of Recycling of Materials of India has urged the center to allow the importation of electronic waste.

The axis by regulations of electronic waste, electricity and producers of electronic products are an answer to administer the electronic waste generated. Companies receive annual recycling objectives based on the amount of electrical and electronic equipment sold.

Producers can buy certificates of responsibility for the extended producer (EPR) of recycler registered to demonstrate compliance with recycling objectives.

Address challenges

Large manufacturers of electronic products, including voltas, Daikin and Hitachi, transferred the Superior Court last September against the implementation of electronic waste management rules due to the fear of incurring high costs.

Sanjay Mehta, president of MRAI, said that the electronic waste recycling units were established with large investments based on the belief that the electronic waste management rules will develop the opportunity to recycle formal and producers will take advantage of the services to comply with them. Objective obligations.

The survival of the recyclers has remained under an interrogation sign with the levels of use or annual capacity of 1.7 million tons to a last low prosecutor after the producers challenged the rules of the EC in the Superior Court of Delhi, he added.

“To protect the interest of recyclers and legal electronic waste recycling facilities that meet legal compliance, we appeal to the central government to open import doors for electronic waste recyclers to face financial challenges,” he added.

The costs tripled

The third place in third place, India generates around 3.2 million tons of electronic waste annually and is projected to double by 2030 unless the systemic and responsible intervention is prioritized throughout the electronic value chain.

Electronic waste standards require producers of electrical and electronic equipment to administer the final life of their products, including recycling and response elimination.

Concerned about poor electronic waste management, the center last September set a minimum floor price that electronic products producers have to pay recyclers to encourage investment in electronic waste management. Producers have complained that their manufacturing cost has tripled due to electronic waste policy.

BK Soni, president and managing director of Eco Recycling, said that as investors are evaluating more and more companies for environmental, social and government performance, a solid electronic waste management improves the corporate credibility of electrical equipment.

Prevention at a nominal financial cost is much cheaper than corrective measures, which can cost many times and still their impacts can never be rectified, Hey said.
