California on Wednesday is ready to sue President Donald Trump to stop his broad tariff regime, arguing that he is implementing his commercial protectionist agenda illegally.
The next Federal Demand will make California the first state to challenge the Trump administration about its high -range tariff plans, which have generated the historical volatility of the market and dishonored the relationship of the United States with their allies and commercial partners.
“Donald Trump does not have the authority to unilaterally impose the greatest tax increase in our life with his destructive tariffs,” wrote California Gavin Newsom governor in X. “We take it to court.”
The demand will argue that the use of Trump of the International Law of Economic Emergency Powers, which he recently invoiced to impose his so -called reciprocal tariff plan, is “illegal and unprecedented,” said Newsom’s office to NBC News.
The situation creates “unreposed and irreparable damage to California, the economy, manufacturing and the largest agricultural state of the nation,” the office said.
The lawsuit submitted in the United States District Court in northern California will seek that Trump rates declare void.
Newsom and California Attorney General Rob Bonta will hold a press conference at 1:30 PM ET announcing the demand.
“The chaotic and chestnut implementation of the president of the tariffs is not only deeply worrying, it is illegal,” Bonta said in a statement to NBC.
“As the fifth largest economy in the world, California understands that world commercial policy is not just a game,” said Bonta.
“The Californians prepare for the consequences of the impact of the president’s elections, from the farmers in the central valley, to small businesses in Sacramento and a worried family at the kitchen table.”
