Police identify Gunman as a 20 -year -old son of the local sheriff in the attack that also injured five.

The 20 -year -old son of a deputy of the Sheriff opened fire at Florida State University with his mother’s old service weapon, killing two people and hurting at least another six, the investigators said.

Friday’s attack occurred at approximately 11:50 am east time (15:50 GMT) outside the students’ union of the Tallahassee school.

The University quickly issued an active handle alert, with the Florida state alert system announcing that the police had “neutralized the threat” shortly after.

The police chief of the Florida State University, Jason Trumbower, said that the two murdered people, who were not immediately identified, were not students at school.

Five other people were being treated at the Tallahassee Memorial hospital, where the accessor was also being treated after being tasks in Capitody, he said.

Speaking from the Oval office, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, said it had been “completely leaves.”

“It’s a horrible thing. It is horrible that things like this happen,” Trump said.

He quickly turned to express support for arms ownership, saying: “These things are terrible, but the weapon is not the shooting. People do it.”

Leon’s County Sheriff, Walter McNeil, later identified the suspect as Phoenix Ikner, 20, son of the deputy of a Sheriff within his own department.

He said that Ikner used his mother’s old service weapon in the attack, added that the attacker had been a long -standing member of the Youth Advisory Council of the Sheriff’s office and participated in a series of training programs with the office.

“We will make sure to do everything possible to process and make sure to send a message to the people who will never be tolerated here in Leon County, and I dare to say throughout the state and in this nation,” McNeil said.

Police said Ikner believes he is a student at the university, but a reason for the attack was not immediately known. Ikner invoked his right to silence when he was arrested, authorities said.

Schootings are relatively common within the United States, and Thorsday shooting was not the first attack at the university.

In 2014, three people were triggered just outside and within the entrance of the Strozier library into the middle of the university campus.

The officers who reached two minutes from the first shot of the call and killed the gunman, a 31 -year -old man.
