When F1 -Academic practice went a good Friday in the Saudi -Aarabic Grand Prix, Ferrari driver Maya Weug was at the top of the timing magazines for Alisha Palmowski and Doriane Pin.
But Weug predicts a tight battle for the pole position to be eligible tonight.
“The car felt pretty good.
“It will be Vley close because the exercise was close up close. We have to make sure that we make the least or smallest mistakes that are possible during the entire round, because it is a spap and try to get tonight.”
Weug also believes that the grip level will be much different during qualification, because the session comes at night and follows a full day of job promotion. With that extra rubber on the surface of the Jeddah Corniche circuit there will be more grip for every driver and perhaps more time to find.
However, getting used to the evolution of the track is a large part of the qualification under the lights.
“Most of the grip extras that is there because we now have two F1 sessions and also F2 have them, so the grip will be insane.
“If it is cooler, the track improves even more. So it will just go, in the first run, get everything out of the grip or understand where the grip is. Very important to get out of it completely.
As Pin Note earlier this week, qualifying at the front is important for achieving the best possible result, because catching up was difficult in the F1 Academy Race in Saudi Arabia last season. Weug knows that she has to put a big performance under the lights to start in the second race when the big points are handed out.
“As we saw last year, catching up is difficult with the dirty air and the hot air too,” said Weug. “It is really important to get a good quality and then we still have to make the first in the first race. I also look forward to the Reverse Grid Race because it takes off”
