Senator Chris van Hollen, D-Md., Says that the margaritas were false. The outrage, he says, is real.
Upon returning from a very publicized trip to El Salvador to meet with the illegal immigrant Deported Kilmar Abrego García, Van Hollen went to the journalists on Thursday after landing at the Dulles International Airport in Virginia. He tried to clarify the record about what is now called “Margarita-Gate”, a viral photo published by Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele who seemed to show the senator and Garcia in a table with two salt beverages.
“Let me be very clear,” said Van Hollen. “Neither of them touched the drinks that were in front of us. And if you want to play a little Sherlock Holmes, I will tell you that you can know that … If you leave one of those glasses, something of whatever, Wibrar, Wibrar.
“No one drinks sea or sugar water or whatever.”

Van Hollen said that the glasses were placed after the meeting advanced to the photographic photo, added that the previous images show the table without drinks. Van Hollen accused both the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele and the Trump administration to try to distract what he described as a constitutional crisis.
“This is a lesson about the duration that President Bukele will do to deceive people,” said Van Hollen. “And it also shows the duration to which the Trump administration and President Iran, because a journalist asked him about this, he simply went for a walk.”

Trump had his own opinion, publishing Truth’s social Friday: “Senator Chris van Hollen or Maryland looked like a fool yesterday standing in El Salvador committed to the attention of false media, or anyone. Grandlor!”
The voice of controversy of Garcia’s case, a 29 -year -old Salvadoran national, deported by Maryland last month and placed in the notorious Cecot prison of the country.

Federal officials have called for deportation an “administrative error” in the Court. Van Hollen and other Democrats have argued that he violated Garcia’s constitutional right to due process.
But the Trump administration has rejected, pointing out the alleged domestic abuse of Garcia, gang ties and their participation in human trafficking.
A 2022 National Security Research Report identified Garcia as a member of MS-13 and a subject of subject people. A presentation of domestic violence of 2021, written by his wife, Jennifer Vásquez, said: “I have multiple photos/videos of how violent it can be and all bruises hey [has] He left me. “

Despite these reports, Van Hollen insists that there have been no evidence in the court and that the elimination was illegal. He cited decisions of a Federal District Court and the United States Supreme Court ordering García’s return.
“The government in this case, the Trump administration, is affirming the right to hide residents of this country in foreign prisons without the appearance of due process,” said Van Hollen, citing a recent decision of the fourth circuit. “That is the basis of our constitutional order.”
He added that Judge Paula Xinis, the federal judge who reviewed the case for the first time, found that the administration “offered no evidence to link Abrego García with MS-13 or any terrorist activity.”

Van Hollen traveled to El Salvador this week after the Salvadoran government initially denied access to Garcia. After the cover of the press, he said, the officials organized a meeting at a hotel, which was filmed. He said that Salvadoran soldiers had previously prevented him from approaching prison and was surprised by the last minute permit to meet.
Hey also revealed that the United States had committed $ 15 million to El Salvador to support detention operations and said more than $ 4 million had already paid their legs. Van Hollen said that this financing was not authorized and promised to oppose future appropriations.
“I won the support of the use of a penny or taxpayers dollars to keep Abrego García illegally arrested in El Salvador,” he said.

Critics, including Republicans and Trump’s allies, have questioned why Hollen would do abroad to advocate some with alleged gang links and a history of domestic abuse while silently calmed me with the victims as a woman from Maryland.
The White House obtained a strong contrast, publishing lateral photos of Trump’s meeting with Morin’s mother and Van Hollen with Abrego García. The title: “We are not the same.”

When asked about the comparison, Van Hollen said that his “heart breaks” for Morin’s family, but defended his actions based on the Constitution.
“The reason we have courts of justice is to punish the culprits, but also ensure that who has not committed crimes are not declared guilty and arbitrarily detained,” he said.
