The Gujarat government has announced that it will start buying ₹ 2,669 chickpea hemth (Chana) and mustard at the minimum support price (MSP) of 4.65 LAKH farmers throughout the state. The acquisition is expected to begin in 266 centers as of April 21.
The state government has signed up to buy 3.36 Lakh MT (metric tons) or chickpeas worth 1,902 million rupees in MSP. Similarly, you will also buy 1.29 LAKH MT or mustard worth ₹ 767 core of farmers.
For the 2024-25 season of Rabi, the Government of India had declared an MSP or ₹ 5,650 per quintal of chickpeas and ₹ 5950 per quintal of mustard.
Around 3.36 LAKH of farmers who cultivate chickpea have already registered in the state to sell their products in MSP, while the number of registered mustard farmers was 1.18 LAKH. The Government will begin the process of purchase of the chickpeas and mustard of the designated acquisition centers 179 and 87, respectively, as of April 21.
Duration 2024-25 season of Rabi, farmers in Gujarat had sown 8.49 hectares of chickpea Lakh, which were approximately 15000 hectares more than the area sowing the last three years. With regard to mustard, only 2.58 Lakh hectares were sown in the last season of Rabi, a decrease of almost 16 percent in the planting area, compared to the 3.07 LAKH hectares of average area sown in the last three years.
