Third Official Top of the Pentagon Put on License waiting for an investigation of leaks

01:56

The agitation week that affects the inner circle of the Pentagon continued on Friday, when two appointed politicians suspended earlier this week were described, multiple officials said to CBS News.

Pete Hegseeth’s Secretary of Defense Joe Kasper, ordered an investigation into unauthorized revelations in March. His memo said the investigation would see “a complete record” of leaks and use polygraph tests if necessary.

The two officials now on fire are the main advisor of Hegseeth, Dan Caldwell, and the deputy director of Cabinet Dan Selnick, the sources said. Both were put on administrative license earlier this week waiting for leak investigation, CBS News reported. Polico was the first to inform his termination.

A third official, Colin Carroll, the chief of cabinet of the Secretary of Defense of the Vice President, also received administrative license this week amid the investigation.

Kasper is also under review as part of the probe, two sources said.

Regarding Kasper, a superior defense officer told CBS News on Saturday: “At this time, no final change of senior personnel has decided, and the secretary will make any future announcement at his own time.”

The authorities have told CBS News that there are discussions about suspending more officials in what seems to be a generalized investigation into leaks to the media.

Kasper’s memorandum was released the same day that the Pentagon vehemently denied billionaire Elon Musk reached the Pentagon for a classified informative session on war plans with China, but officials say that the investment is looking at more than one story.
