Former state coach Kenni burns more than $ 100,000 on loans of reinforcement, according to an investigation.

That reinforcement was also a school supplier. Burns was put on administrative license in March and was fired on April 11.

Kent State never publicly gave a reason why Burns was put on administrative license or fire.

An independent investigation carried out by an external law firm found that Burns had received six figures on loans from Michael Awad, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Loans were in 2023, after Burns said his house had flooded, and was fighting financial because he had sold his house in Minnesota. Burns asked to pay the $ 109,000 on loans that he had preceded in Halloween 2023, and paid them with nine checks for 14 months, according to the investigation.

There was no evidence that Burns paid interest on loans.

While Burns received Awad loans, Awad helped him open a credit card with Hometown Bank. In 2024, Burns could not make the minimum payments and exceeded the credit card limit and was seduced by the bank, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Banco’s demand against Burns was resolved once Kent State coach had paid what he owed.

The loans that Burns received could have violated the State Ethics Laws, which prevent state employees from receiving benefits from reinforcements.
