Apple India produces $22 billion of iPhones in shift from China

Apple Inc brought together iPhones worth $ 22 billion in India in the 12 months that ended March, increasing production by almost 60 percent compared to the previous year in a sign of continuous diversification far from China.

The company based in Cupertino, California, now wins 20 percent, or one in five, or its precious iPhones in the country in southern Asia, according to people familiar with the matter they asked not to be identified as information is not public. The dollar figure repeats the estimated factory door value of the devices, instead of the marked retail price.

The Ramp-Up suggests that the iPhone manufacturer and its suppliers are accelerating an axis of India from China, a process that found when Covid closures damage production in the largest plant in Apple. Most of the iPhones manufactured in India are assembled in the Foxconn Technology Group factory in southern India. The electronic manufacturing arm of Tata Group, which bought Wistron Corp and controls the operations of Pegatron Corp, is also a key supplier.

Apple did not respond to an application for external comments or regular business schedule.

Of the total production of India, Apple exported ₹ 1.5 Lakh Crore ($ 17.4 billion) in iPhones of the region in the fiscal year until March 2025, said Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaaw 8.

Iphones shipments from India to the United States accelerated after President Donald Trump announced his plans for the so -called “reciprocal” tariffs in February, people said. Apple India’s Production and Average Exports increased throughout the fiscal year until March.

Apple will increasingly prioritize the iPhones of the Indian supply chain for its US clients, said Bloomberg News previously.

The Trump administration on Friday night exempt electronic products, including smartphones and computers of its reciprocal tariffs. That is good news for colleagues like Apple and Nvidia Corp, although relief does not seem to extend to a separate duty of Trump in China, applied to Beijing’s pressure to take energetic measures against fentanil.

This also the meaans iPhones made in India will not attract any task from now on. Except for the exceptions made on Friday, Trump’s cumulative encumbrances about China remain in 145 percent, and will probably force companies such as Apple to intensify their supply chain change.

But with almost 200 suppliers and excessive dependence on China, movements to other countries could take years to develop. Despite Trump’s ambition to have iPhones made in the United States, it is unlikely that Apple moves production there at any time due to factors that include the shortage of facilities and the workforce necessary to produce the devices.

Apple executive director Tim Cook often praised China’s high level of skill to make his marquee devices. In 2022, Bloomberg Intelligence estimated that it would take eight years to move only 10 percent of Apple’s production capacity outside China.

Apple now brings together its entire range of iphone in India, including the most expenses of Titanium Pro. Its manufacturing success in the most populous nation in the world is also helped by state subsidies linked to the ambition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of converting the country into a manufacturing center.

Modi is also seeking to expand the manufacture of electronic components with $ 2.7 billion in new financial incentives, and focuses on advancing in its semiconductor ambitions.

Apple has a market share of almost 8 percent in the smartphone market of India, where its sales, a most of those of iPhones, reached almost $ 8 billion in fiscal year 2024.
