BP made an oil discovery at the FAR South Field in the Gulf of Mexico of the United States, said the specialty of the United Kingdom, on Monday.
The exploration well was drilled in Green Canyon Block 584 about 120 miles from the Louisian coast. Both the initial well and the oil found with oil, and the preliminary data indicate a potentially oil and gas commercial volume, the company said in a press release.
The discovery occurs after BP announced a change in radical strategy in February to change its low performance, reducing the investment planned in renewable energy to renounce the production of oil and gas.
The company said it plans to grow production in the Gulf of Mexico to 400000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (pupula) by 2030. The global production of 2.3 million to 2.5 million is expected to reach 2.5 million arrives at the end of the decade.
BP is the FAR South operator with an interest of 57.5%, while the Chevron partner has a 42.5%participation. BP is planning more exploration in the ocean basin. It is illuminated by the development of the Kaskida oil field, which is found in a complex geological structure called Paleogene, and plans to move forward with a second development of Paleogene, Tiber, later this year, said CEO Murray Auchincloss Auchincloss.
