The Center plans to invest ₹ 10 Lakh Crore in the next two years to strengthen roads throughout the country, with a special approach in the Landheast, where the roads will rival those of the USA. UU., Said the Minister of Transportation by road and roads, Nitin Gadkari.
In an interview with PTI, he said that the center is working to drastically transform the country’s infrastructure into the next two years to match the best in the world.
“We plan to take projects worth ₹ 10 LAKH Crore in the next two years to strengthen roads throughout the country, with special emphasis on improving infrastructure in land and borders areas. In the next two users, the GADS said, in the northeast, in the northeast.
There is an urgent need to increase road infrastructure in the Landheast, given its difficult land and proximity to the borders, he said.
“It is our effort to drastically transform the infrastructure of the country to match the best in the world,” he said, maintaining that the works are underway in all states, including Maharashtra, Gujarata, Rajastu.
Gadkari said that 784 road projects will be implemented in the eastern states at an estimated cost of ₹ 3,73,484 million rupees, which cover 21,355 km.
Among them are projects from the Ministry of Transportation and Highway Roads, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Road and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), he said.
“We currently have projects worth ₹ 57,696 million rupees in ASAM, and around ₹ 90,000 million rupees in Bihar. We are also carrying out projects worth more than ₹ 42,000 million rupees in Western Bengal, around ₹ 53,000 million rupees in Jharkhand, and around ₹ 58.id.
“In the northwest, we expect Assam, we are undertaking projects worth approximately 1 Lakh Crore this year,” he said.
Gadkari said that a massive rapid transport pilot project is underway in Nagpur at a cost of ₹ 170 million rupees.
“The project involves a 135-square bus that will be executed in non-polluting energy sources and is expected to be highly profitable. If it succeeds, it will be replicated on important routes throughout the country, including the Delhi-Jaipur section, under the Build-Operate-Transfer model (Bot),” he said.
The minister said that the duration of the National Highway has expanded significantly, growing from 91,287 km in March 2014 to 1,46,204 km today, with a significant improvement in the standards.
The proportion of national roads below two lanes has decreased sharply, from 30 percent to 9 percent of the total network, Hey said.
In 2024–25, NHAI built 5,614 km or national roads, size, up to its target or 5,150 km.
