A scorching heat wave in various parts of the country has promoted the demand for mountain stations in northern India, resulting in an increase of up to 48 percent in last -minute air rates to Dehradun and Srinagar.
In fact, Dehradun and Srinagar are among the five most reserved destinations for the duration of the two long weekends this month, according to the data of the Ixigo travel portal. Other destinations that experience high demand include Goa, Coimbatore, Jammu, Port Blair and Jaipur.

According to Ixigo, the Average Unidirectional Punctual Tariff to Srinagar de Delhi and Mumbai in the first week or April was 29 % and 48 % higher, respectively, about a year after year (Yoy). For the Dehradun sector, the greatest increase in rates was observed in Kolkata (33 percent), followed by Delhi and Mumbai routes, which reported a growth of 11 percent and 7 percent.
Among leisure destinations, Port Blair has seen an increase of 25-26 percent in specific rates, driven by growing demand and less flights.
National airlines are expected to operate 25,610 flights per week in the summer schedule, marking a 5.5 percent growth on a yoy base. Compared to the last winter season, the increase is a modest 2.4 percent.
“Hill’s destinations continue to be a key growth driver for Sarovar hotels this summer. The properties in Bhomtal, Dalhouseie, Mussorie, Manali, Palampur, Shimla and Srinagar are seeing interests of Staw-Staw-Mattic,” said Akshay, Senior Vice President (Commercial), Sarovar Hotels.
“Compared to the same period last year, we have seen an average increase in the daily rate by 7 percent, and occupancy levels also show an upward trend,” he added.
Travel and hotels are also witnessing high growth in April compared to last year, which had seen demand off due to general elections.
“We are witnessing a strong beginning of the summer season, with anticipated reserves at 35-40 percent compared to the same period last year. The early start of heat in Delhi NCR, along with multiple long weekend, has led to a strong timbre of Layable.
Destinations, including Rishikesh, Nainital, Haridwar and Corbett, continuous to gain traction, Prasad said. “Our properties in McLeodganj, Manali and Kasouli are also seeing a growing interest,” he added.
The Department of Meteorology of India has predicted the warning of the heat wave for Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, extinguishes until April 18. The heat wave for various parts of Andhra Pradesh is also forecast.
