The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce (IIFT) “soon” will begin a course on negotiations, since this is a set of important skills required in areas such as free trade agreements, a senior government official said on Saturday.

The Secretary of Commerce, Sunil Barthwal, also said that Abhijit Das’s author “Strategies in WTO and WTO negotiations“The book can be an initial textbook at the WTO and Iift Studies Center.

While releasing Das’s book, he said that there was previously a publication that provided an integral perspective on commercial negotiations.

“When we observe these problems in the Commerce Department, we always feel that it is a need for a negotiation course, which starts very soon,” said the secretary.

With the growing number of free trade agreements, negotiation skills will be key in the next few days, since it involves officials from different departments. India is negotiating several agreements, even with the United States, the United Kingdom, Oman, Australia, Peru and the European Union (EU).

“… On a daily base, I find it very difficult to see that our negotiators, you know, can be as good as the negotiators, who come from the OSTR office or the European Commission’s office. They have been served in their years … performs the work of work … find that, if our boys, our boys are of knowledge, are very dedicated, but perhaps, since they know, there is a lot of negotiation skills or negotiations. Speaking of the book, he said: “If I give it to my negotiators, they will know where to start. So that is the beauty of this book.”

“We feel that there is the need for a good course curriculum on negotiations. And negotiations, rightly, are not simply multilateral negotiations, but also, many times the multilateral negotiations … and the taste of the day are bilateral negotiations.”

They give more than two decades of experience in international trade in various capacities, including five years in the formulation of commercial policies in the government of India and 12 years as head of the WTO Studies Center, New Delhi.
