India and the United States will begin face to face on the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) next month as a monitoring of virtual conversations between officials who will begin this week. They are struggled to conclude the first section of the pact, with a 2025 autumn deadline “as soon as possible,” said government officials.

At the same time, an import monitoring cell established by the Government is maintaining a strict tab in possible imports of countries such as China, Vietnam and Indonesia due to the risk of merchandise discharge as a response to the SADIFs of the utials.

It can cause exports

“A recent evaluation by the Government stressed that the increase in the costs of the United States can cause exporters from countries such as China, Vietnam and Indonesia, all faced with US tricitos, to divert assets to India, a Siemy Anysiaty.

In addition, Chinese retaliation rates on US goods could further increase the entry of some agricultural products from the United States into India, according to evaluation.

The Inter-Ministerial Committee to monitor import operations has been established with representatives of the Department of Commerce, DGFT, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and DPIIT.

“The BMI is monitoring weekly and monthly imports, both for products and countries,” said the official.

India was the first country to begin negotiating a pact with the United States after Trump announced his intention to impose reciprocal tariffs on high import tariffs in the country and commercial surpluses against the United States. In February, the trip of the duration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United States, both leaders agreed to negotiate a BTA more than double bilateral trade to $ 500 billion and end the first section of the pact before the fall of 2025 (September-October of 2025).

A team of senior commercial officials visited New Delhi last month to finish the terms of reference of BTA conversations and discuss modalities.

Fast trail discussions

“While the deadline for the first section of the BTA is the fall of 2025, we will try to conclude it so soon. The rapid monitoring of the discussions can help postpone the reciprocal tariffs of Trump beyond the official period,” said the official. “

On April 2, Trump announced reciprocal about most commercial partners, including 26 percent in India, but put the fees on April 9 for 90 days to negotiate trade agreements.

The main negotiator of India for the Indian BTA-EE. UU. And the additional secretary of Commerce, Rajesh Agawal, confirmed that the efforts were to begin negotiations in person for the BTA in May. “We hope to enter the physical mode of negotiations in the second half of May. Therefore, we are in time in regards to the BTA and its negotiations,” said Agarwal.

There are both Conerns and opportunities for India in terms of current reciprocal rates announced by Trump, said Secretary of Commerce Sunil Barthwal. “The negotiations are continuing and we have tasks a path of liberalization of trade and Bta. So, if we follow that path, not only the trade in India with the United States … that will also open opportunities for India and for us too.
