“Due to the improved performance of the plant’s cane, the availability of cane has improved and it is expected that these 22 factories remain in operations until the end of April 2025 or the first week of May. Some factories in southern Karnataka are expected to restart the duration of the operations of the special season from June/July, he added that Karnataka and Tamil Nadu contribute collectively around 0.4-0.5 TM of sugar production in the special season, Historique.
The Sugar Private docks association also said that around 3.5 TM of sugar is expected to deviate towards the production of ethanol in the current season (October to September), against 2.15 TM, in 2023-24.
Last month, Ishma had reduced its own estimate of sugar production for the entire 2024-25 to 26.4 mt season from 27.27 MT with a fixation in January, citing lower cane availability in Maharashtra and Karnataka, and early closing of crushing by some mills in Eastern and central regions of UP.

Projecting an optimistic perspective for the 2025-26 season, Isma said: “It will benefit from a favorable southwest monzón in 2024, sugarcane planting for the 2025-26 season has shown a notable improvement of states.
In addition, he said that the current varietal replacement initiatives are delivering encouraging results in Uttar Pradesh and other northern states. These advances are expected to improve sugar and performance recovery rates, which thus strengthens the general performance of production in the next season, he added.
