The application is produced in the light of the recent order of the Superior Court of Karnataka that suspends bike taxi operations in mid -May; The state government would issue rules and guidelines under the Motorized Vehicle Law, 1988, for the same.
They also urged the state government to form a joint committee that includes officials of the State Transportation Department, industry representatives and concert workers/ bicycle taxi unions, for their ideas about the formulation of taxi guidelines by bicycle. Rapido responded to the prohibition saying that the company is concerned about the well -being of its employees and would seek legal remedies once a detailed order is made available.
Karnataka was the first state to launch a bike taxi electrical scheme in 2021, which allowed aggregator platforms to obtain a license from the transport department, but retired in 2024 after misuse reports.
