RS 16,000 million JSW Energy rupees to establish its largest energy plant in Greenfield: an ultra -super -preytic thermal unit of 1,600 MW in Salboni in Western Bengal will be the “most competitive” in terms of capital cost in pan, Sairs company salary.
The company is also planning more investments in the state, including a 900–1000 MW pumped storage project in Purulia, as part of its 40 GWh storage capacity map, which combines pumping storage and battery -based solutions.
The Salboni project, which includes two units of 800 MW each, marks the first important incursion of JSW Energy in the east of India. The group has a cement grinding unit on the Salboni site in the West Medinipur district.
“The cost of the project is RS 16,000 million rupees, and is the largest investment in Greenfield in the company. It also has a strategic meaning,” said JSW Energy joint managing director Sharad Mahendra.
The JSW Energy Director (Finance), Prichenh Vinay, said the project is executed at a capital cost of RS 10 million rupees per MW, which makes it one of the most profitable energy projects compared to others recently announced in the country.
“Western Bengala has been able to offer the project that is more competitive. This is the fastest execution, since the base stone will be established on April 21, after the announcement of the project in February,” he said.
Per capita energy consumption in Western Bengal is almost half of the national average. However, with the impulse of the state government on industrialization and urbanization, it is projected that demand will grow at a faster rate than the national average, he added.
“Current annual consumption or 60 billion units is expected to be more than double 134 billion units by 2035, which provides a solid case for investment,” Vinay said.
When commenting on the state growth potential, Mahendra said: “If India is about 25-30 years behind China in terms of development, Western Bengala is around 10-15 years compared to the south, north or west of India. That reflects that JSW Energy has signed an energy purchase agreement (PPA) with the Western Bengal Government during the entire capacity of 1,600 MW.
The first 800 MW unit is expected to be in charge of 42 months, followed by the second in 48 months, Mahendra said.
In Peak Construction, the project is expected to generate employment for 4000–6,000 people and create 800–1000 permanent jobs once operational.
The energy plant will also give an impulse to an industrial park of proposed, which is currently under evaluation, in Salboni.
The company is also in conversations with the state government for a storage project pumped in Western Bengal, with an estimated capacity of 900-1000 MW and a possible additional investment of RS 8,000-100 billion rupees, officials said.
“Our teams have visited potential sites, and we are waiting for greater government communication on the pumping storage project,” said Mahendra.
Jsw Energy has aligned an additional capacity of 18 GW, both in thermal and green power, in the coming years, from 12.2 GW now.
