As the Murugappa business conglomane group strengthens its businesses for the future, it has not only thrown its hat to the manufacture of semiconductors, but has been to dominate the end of the end to end with a chip design game. While Murugappa, through CG Power and Industrial Solutions, previously established an assembly and test of subcontracted semiconductors (OSAT) CG CG SEMI with an investment of ₹ 7.6 billion rupees, also has a fir millions of chips (more than $ 36 million (RO RO semiconductor.

However, Axiro, based in Bangalore, has the advantage of not starting from scratch in the complex integrated circuit design sector (IC). Axiro is formed by the acquisition of the radiofrequency unit (RF) of Murugappa Group of Global Chip Major Renesas. As an Indian entity, all the current and future intellectual property of Axiro (IP) in the design of semiconductors will now be in India, a great impulse to the ambitions of self -sufficiency of India in the sector.

“We are a Fabless semiconductor company. We do not do packaging or proof, but we are owners of the IC. At this time, we use other suppliers for assembly and tests and potentially we could also use CG-SEMI,” Teup. Commercial. Yanduru previously administered the RF business of Renesas.

According to Yanduru, Axiro already sends a million chips every week to “hundreds of customers”, including Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, Hughes and Zte, among others. “We have approximately 200 chips that we have produced in the last 10 years,” he said. Axiro serves industries such as wireless infrastructure, satellite communication and industrial clients. “We are not entering the market from scratch, where we need to dethrone a holder; we are the headlines,” he said.

Having overturned to be a team based in the USA. UU. At the base of the base in Bengaluru, Yanduru hopes that, for the first time, a disassembly of any wireless unit, be it a smartphone or radios in telecommunications towers or industrial IoT devices: Axiro. “Everything is Indian now … Any IP created in Axiro and any income returns home,” he said.

While 99 percent of its income is global, this is changing as Axiro Inkins to serve Indian companies such as Networks and Jio tiles, Yanduru said.

Recognize competition

The semiconductor executive recognizes the competition of chips design giants. “Our USP is innovation and manufacturing of excellent products. We are not strengthening ourselves in numbers, but the strength of income, patents, IP and quality,” he said. He also pointed out the strong financial and operational support that Axio receives from the 125 -year -old legacy of the Murugappa group.

The company is also guided by Vellayan Subbiah, the fourth general scion of the Murugappa group and the non -executive president of Tube Investments (TII) that now has the power of CG.

Currently, Axiro is currently about 80 people that cover R&D, applications, quality and chips tests, marketing and other functions of the San Diego, Bangalore, Istanbul and Shanghai offices of Renesas. He has also hired about 15-20 people for administration roles in Bengaluru. The company will also be closely involved with academic institutes such as Iit Bombay and Iit Madras to grow its R&D team, said Yanduru.

The semiconductor executive is also optimistic that Axiro will be the first of the many chips design stories outside India. There will be a day when the products of the Global Electronics specialties contain conceptualized and designed chips in India, he says.
