Ai’s entry of Agentic will not eliminate software jobs or developers, but the change of their work, said Arun Kumar Parameswaran, managing director of EVP and manager, sales and distribution, Salesforce – South Asia.
After the launch of a company’s report on the State, Kumar spoke extensively about the influence of AI on jobs and Salesforce plans in India. Extracts:
His report mentions 100 percent of the equipment for which he spoke to use or intends to use AI to completely encode. Does that mean that the works of the encoders are Kaput?
The jobs or encoders are not Kaput, what they do is Kaput. It makes no sense to configure and write code that otherwise a tool can write for you. In which he would focus on discovering how to make that code do something interested. You can spend more time to discover the architecture of how to climb that code, what are the corner cases with which you can try for those who usually have no time. So, I don’t think the work of the software developer is gone. I am looking every day of thesis thesis. They are not writing a single line of code, they are literally cutting and sticking from chatgpt and varusous tools, but spend more time thinking about how the code will interact with the client and how to delight the client and things like Exper.
Within Salesforce, he said goodbye to about 1,000 employees worldwide. Are you changing around your employees to different dedications or are they being replaced by AI?
Every time we go through any of these actions, the first thing we do is ensure that everyone has the opportunity to see all the different options they have within the company. We are a company very based on values and this is how we have always worked with all our employees. But I also believe that at this time, you look where the market is directed, we are seeing the son of the opportunity that we had never seen before. This is a unique opportunity in life. Our approach continues to be how we cultivate the company and monetize that opportunity in front of us with our customers.
In the IT sector, there are talk of deferred salary walks, low hiring. Is it possible that the IT sector is reaching a kind of saturation in terms or opportunities for employment?
In most of the technology transition, we say that this is a transition and then passes through a phase that has a little dip and then there is a climb. The AI problem has a leg that, first it was a generative AI, then became a co -pilot, then it has become an agent, tomorrow it is likely to be robotic and before we realize, it will be AGI. Not only are we letting the first wave settle before moving on to the next. I do not know honestly what will be the impact of some of these mobile movements in the broader market. So, I think it is a waiting and observation approach at this time. Every time there is a change, the first reaction is that we will lose jobs. But each of these changes has created more opportunities than losses. I have no doubt in my mind that AI will have that similar impact.
In November, you had talked about the construction of the first tower in India, what is the update there?
This is the tenth tower worldwide; So, it is a significant investment. The importance of Salesforce in the Indian market is also read as we see from a global and corporate perspective. When we house all our functions there, we have an innovation center in Salesforce, a dedicated sic space, a significant amount of space for us to join our people, outside the United States, not all sales functions are not presented. So I think we have a unique opportunity to do much more together, so this new installation will give us those opportunities.
What is your approach for 2025 in terms of public division?
We begin our foray into the public sector business on February 1, 2024. It takes time to build that business, but I can tell you that of the advantages we have to build something and keep it for a long period of time. We are very encouraged with our results of the year 1 and the pipeline of conversations that we are having with agencies, governments, ministries, etc. So feel very optimistic about it, and again this is a country that has significantly invested in public digital infrastructure, the government has to obtain credit to allow the industry in general to be more advanced technological than the region of the region. You only need a Aadhaar card and a PAN card, everything else comes from the government, an accounts frame frame will give you all those data, even customer credit data, it is as if the government were practical and the automatic government.
Is there a particular state government that has shown the best response?
At this point, we cannot appoint a State, but one of the greatest challenges that state governments have are citizen data. It is found in Silos in all different departments. The state government does not have a unique vision of that citizen in most places. That is a problem that we are trying to solve with our data cloud platform. It is intended to bring a client’s unified gold record. So, if I can find a way of pivoting the citizen as the registration of the golden client, then I have ways to identify all the inefficiencies in the system. Do we really intend that the benefits are who they are to be in place of where he is going? That is a statement of the problem we are trying to solve.
Any particular sector that responds to your services?
Financial services have always been the climate of the belt of our business worldwide, in India, that is no different. We have some fantastic victories. The insurance was the only one that was a bit lagging, we had great victories in the insurance last year. Banking, retail consumer goods have been very strong for us. Another vertical is real estate property. B2C aligns with what we do very well, so we are also seeing a lot of interest in real estate and medical care. Hospitality has been booming. Since Covid-19, they have managed to reduce all their costs, but their income has tripled in some cases. The rates of the rooms that used to be ₹ 6,000-7000 are now ₹ 18,000-25000 and what you recover is not very different from what it was. So, they are seeing a great increase and everyone is investing heavy. Also travel, transport, the car has been very strong for us.
Do you see the global economic deceleration that perhaps affects digital expenses in some way?
The rest of the world has bone in a prolonged deceleration for four years. We have seen something changes in India in the last four years. India has been growing 6 percent plus GDP. While the entire world and the eurozone were sitting in a very marginal growth, almost recession, we were growing at 7 percent. We have very strong regulators who assured that we do not have some of the bad habits in which other Gothic countries in which they will be included.
