The city of Pomona in southern California will be the host of the Cricket competition during the Los Angeles Games of 2028, the CPI announced here on Tuesday.
The Cricket event, which will have six teams each in categories of men and women, will be a hero at the Pomona fairgrounds with the sport that will be part of the Olympic Games after 128 years.
The president of the ICC, Jay Shah, said in a statement: “We welcome the announcement of the Crickt’s place in Los Angeles 2028, since it is a significant step towards the preparation for the return of our sport to the Olympic Games.” “Although Cricket is a very popular sport, it will be a fantastic opportunity to expand traditional limits when it appears in the Olympic Games in the exciting T20 format and fast pace that attracts new audiences to the shoulders.” Cricket, who made his only appearance at the Olympic Games in the Paris Games in 1900, was included in the Los Angeles Olympic Games program after session 141 of IOCs in Mumbai in October 2023.
Cricket joined five new sports in La28, including baseball/softball, flag football, Lacrosse (six) and Squash.
The T20 format, recognized as the vehicle for the growth of the game by the ICC, has also appeared in other multisport events in recent years. The Asian Games in 2010, 2014 and 2023 presented male and female T20 competitions, while the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth games organized a female competition.
