ARHA Welcomes Two New Board Members – Alabama Rural Health Association

The Alabama Rural Health Association is pleased to welcome two new members of the Board that were included in the annual 2023 conference in Hoover last month. These two members of the Board are Dawna Nelson, Ph.D., and Melanie Baucom, DNP, CRNP.

Dawna Nelson is a student or current member of the Faculty of the State University of Alabama. He is a research member of the Alabama Higher Education Commission (ACHE) focused on the development of the Rural Health Work Force. She facilitated our rural road show in Montgomery last year. She brings experience lived as a member of the black community, as well as her professional experience working together with historical communities to address health capital, which aligns with Arha’s commitment to reduce health disparities in our rural communities.

Melanie Baucom, DNP, CRNP is a family nurse who has primary care for rural patients and unattended medications for more than ten years. He is a member of the Faculty and leads an initiative in the nursing of the UAB School of Nursing, the nursing practitioners dedicated to working in rural communities, who graduated more than 100 primary care practitioners prepared to provide attention to rural communities. She is intersted in serving on the board of directors for the arha in order to foster partnerships and assist the organization in meeting its mission of lawying for rural Health issues in alabama.
