One of the strictest countries in the world when it comes to drug crimes has been fixed on an American professional basketball player.

Jarred Dwayne Shaw, currently playing in the Professional League of Indonesia for the Tangerang Hawks, Cordination of Associated Press, was arrested by the local authorities on May 7 for allegedly trying to move from smuggling illegal drugs in the country.

Shaw, 34, is a native of Dallas who plays university basketball in the state of Utah and has a leg in the Indonesian league since 2022.

An airport council to local authorities that say that Shaw had resorted to a suspicious package of Thailand, which has decriminalized marijuana, unlike Indonesia, finally led to the sentence.

An incursion of Shaw’s apartment discovered 100 pieces of candy Delta-9 THC, on WKRC television.

That candy supposedly weighed about 30 ounces.

Or keep in mind that Ronald Sipayung, the police chief of the Soekarno-Hatta airport, told the AP that Shaw’s case could be the tip of the Iceberg.

“We are still executing the investigation to discover the international drug network behind this case and stop its distribution,” Sipayung said.

Several videos have appeared online or Shaw related to the incident.

A video aims to show Shaw, whose face is blurred, while shouting for “help” while the authorities seem to surround him.

Another video that circulates online seems to show Shaw in its reading of charges, as well as images of cannabis sweets in question:

Shaw told the authorities that he planned to share his sweets with his teammates. According to the reports, the Hawks ended their job due to a breach of contract.

Perhaps the most worrying thing for Shaw, however, is that strict anti -drug laws of Indonesia mean that the death penalty is on the table, including death through the shooting squad.
