San Diego – Scott Hollenbeck, MD, president of the University of Virginia (UVA) of the Department of Plastic Surgery, Maxillofacial and Oral Health, has been appointed President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASP), the long-holenfiedfied 2024, in San Diego.

“I feel honored to serve as President of ASP and maintain knowledge that plastic surgeons can be leaders within their health systems and add value to their communities through the innovative and inspired resolution of problem solving,” said Dr. Hollenbeck. “I will continue working to unify the specialty and the organization towards critical missions, such as guaranteeing access to plastic surgery services, a continuous advance in patient safety and strengthening the importance of consulting a plastic surgeon certified by the Board when considering cosmetic or reconstructive procedures.”

Cornerstone or Dr. Hollenbeck’s plans as President of ASPS will be to show the fundamental value that plastic surgery has in the United States health system. It is energized and inspired by academic medicine and strongly emphasizes the importance of collaboration in a large health system.

In 2020, as Vice President of Education of the Board ASPS/PSF, Dr. Ir. Hollenbeck helped direct the organization through the challenges of COVID-19 expanding virtual educational opportunities through improvements of the examination in service and the online online platform Ednet.

Dr. Hollenbeck currently serves as a professor at Raymond F. Morgan in grapes, the first department of plastic surgery in the country, which he joined in 2022, when he accepted the position of president of the department.

“The talents of Dr. Hollenbeck as a surgeon, researcher and educator have made him a national leader in academic medicine,” said Melina R. Kibbe, MD, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and director of Health Health Affairs. “It is leading our department of plastic surgery to even greater achievements in service to our patients and future generations of doctors and scientists.”

Its clinical practice implies reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery, with a specific approach to breast cancer reconstruction. Dr. Hollenbeck has had a successful research career in areas that include health services, basic sciences, translation and marketing programs, with a well of 125 publications reviewed by pairs, several patents and a variety or extramural subsidies. Inspired by his patients and apprentices, he has focused on identifying barriers to access the reconstruction of breast cancer, local national level.

Dr. Hollenbeck obtained his doctor’s degree and Graduated Magna Cum Laude with Alpha Alpha Alpha Medical Honor Society distinction from Ohio State University. Hello, he completed a general surgery residue at the New York Presbyterian hospital, which led him to follow a second residence in plastic surgery at Duke University, focusing on microvascular reconstruction for cancer. While working as an associate Professor, Vice President of Division, Director of Research and Director of Breast Reconstruction at Duke, Dr. Ir. Hollenbeck partnered with several biomedical engineers to launch a starting company related to tissue engineering.
