The State has released 615 hectares for new housing projects to accommodate residential growth.

The Tasmania government announced that it has expanded the urban growth limit in Greater Hobart, creating space for almost 10,000 new homes to be built in the coming years.

The announcement continues to a consultation between February and March of this year and will unlock 615 hectares of land in Greater Hobart. This includes Brighton, located 27 km north of the city; Clarence, found on the east coast; Kingborough, located south; and Sorell, positioned east.

The urban growth limit is part of the regional strategy for the use of the land of southern Tasmania, one of the three regional land use strategies.

The limit defines the limits for several uses of urban land and aims to guide residential growth, considering infrastructure and services provisions. The growth areas identified then report local or developers to the proposals of reasons.

This follows the State that establishes its own housing builder panel, which is ready to meet its social and affordable housing objectives.

The Minister of Housing, Planning and Affairs of the Consumer of Tasmania, Felix Ellis, said that the liberation of land establishes the southern region for sustainable growth.

“We are supporting the builders, cutting the bureaucracy and sending a clear message to the construction industry: Tassie is open to businesses and eager to obtain construction,” Ellis said.

To support the expansion, the state government is also progressing updates to the strategy of use of the land of southern Tasmania to ensure that it remains practical, contemporary and aligned with population growth.

The consultation for the strategy will begin in the next 100 days.

Executive Director of the Property Council of Australia – Tasmania Rebecca Ellston said the Council welcomes development opportunities to provide homes for the areas of Greenfield.

“Obsolete urban growth limits can hinder the intelligent growth of the population, particularly at a time when our state needs new homes and the growth and economic stimulus that this contributes to the construction industry,” Ellston said.

After Tasmania receiving a last housing command box of 30 out of 100 in the associations of the housing industry (HIA), the launch is appropriate, according to the executive director of Tasmania, Stuart Collins.

“With Tasmania now, Rock Bottom on the HIA housing score card, which brings together the activity in each state and territory against long -term averages in housing construction and the activity of renovations, data loans and population flows, which makes more universities more in” “” “” “” “” “” ”

“Now it is up to the government to eliminate bureaucracy and push this country through the subdivision approach process, to ensure that it is taken to the market in an expeditious manner.

“In addition, the Government must also consider filling and densification opportunities as part of its broader housing solutions.”
