Shohei Ohtani is away from the Los Angeles Dodgers before the birth of the first child of the two-way Superster.
Manager Dave Roberts said for the series opener of the Dodgers on Friday evening in Texas that Ohtani was with his wife and went on MLB’s paternity list.
“He and Mamiko expect in Sum Point. That’s all I know,” said Roberts. “I don’t know when he’s coming back and I don’t know when they’re going to get the baby, but they are clearly together in anticipation.”
The 30-year-old Ohtani posted at the end of December on his Instagram account that he and his 28-year-old wife, for the former professional basketball player from his native Japan, expected a baby in 2025.
“I can’t wait for the little Rookie to come to our family quickly!” Said the post of December 28 with a photo with the beloved dog of the coupling, Decoy, as well as a pink corrugated Osie together with baby shoes and a sonogram that was covered by a baby emoji.
Ohtani can miss a maximum of three games while they are on paternity leave. The Dodgers have the piece on the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday before an off-day Monday series in Texas.
