George Russell had to overcome countless obstacles to stick to the second in Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix. I had to keep Lando Norris at a distance over the Closs round. I had to make a stint of 25 laps on a set of soft tires work Evite high levels of tire breakdown.
He also had to do all of that while he experienced several mechanical failures on his W16 during the last part of the race.
“Yes, it felt everything under control and it suddenly had a Brake-by-Wire failure,” explained Russell Trackside after the race. “So Sudently the pedal went long, and then it went short … comfortable.
That was not the only problems that Russell experienced when the Bahrain Grand Prix ended. He also experienced a problem with the DRS system on his W16, where the team had to carry out a transfer to the system during the race. At one point, Russell pressed the radio button on his steering wheel and the DRS opened, which followed an investigation by racing officials after the Grand Prix.
Russell was released from misconduct, given the mechanical failure and the fact that no sporting benefit was achieved.
“Yes, we actually had all kinds of failures and actually we did a override on the Drs,” Russell added. “And on one round I click on the radio button and the drs opened, so I immediately closed it again, thrown backwards – I lost emergency. I lost more than I won, it was just a fraction of a second open, so it’s a bit of the amount of problems we had. As I said, really satisfied with P2.”
The Mercedes driver admitted that it was a distance from Norris to finish a “pleasant” result.
Yes, I mean, I haven’t actually had that many P2s to be honest. I had a few P3s, but we did not expect to be somewhere near McLaren this weekend. Qualification in the first row was a real surprise. And the seeing Lando above on round one behind me, I thought, “He is going to fly here in the awards.” Oscar has done fantastic work to control the race, but to keep Lando at a distance, I was really happy about it, “Russell added.
The result added 18 points to Russell’s accounts in the year, so that his total of 63 was brought to the season. That is what the Mercedes driver has only six points at the back of reigning champion Max Verstappen, and only 14 points behind the current title leader Norris.
Is Russell a title that states this year?
“I would like to say it, but I don’t think we’re honest,” Russell granted.
“McLaren are now just too dominant. Those two races.” And this weekend we picked up the Pietes to get a P2 – and we also did it in Melbourne to get the P3. I do not expect this to continue with many races to eat, but who knows. “
