Nebraska coach Matt Rhule Street an audible on his plan to eliminate full Pad scrimmaging on the day of what would normally be the spring game of Cornhuskers.
Rhule said that the event of April 26 would replace the spring competition on Thursday, would include an indefinite amount of live scrimmaging for usually players of third and fourth strings.
Last month, Rhule became the first coach to put an end to the traditional spring match of his school, with reference to concern about other teams exploring his players in a television scrimmage and possibly poaching.
He said that he wants to give another chance to borderline players who try to make the 105-manter in the fall and also to players who have already been told that they are not needed in the fall to show other schools as the will to keep playing in the fall.
“The boys who have arrived in their places will not play,” said Rhule. “Sub boys may ask to play.
The event replaces the spring game De Husker games and will contain skills competitions and 7-on-7 games with current and former players. A women’s flag football exhibition is also planned.
