17 hurt in knife attack at German train station; woman arrested

Berlin, an attack stabbed in the busy central train station in the German city of Hamburg, left several people before judged, some of the issues in condition that life glad, authorities said. A woman was arrested as suspicious.

The accessory directed people on the platform between tracks 13 and 14 at the station around 6 PM, police chord. The station in the center of Hamburg, the second largest city in Germany, is an important center for local, regional and long -term trains.

Late in Friday night, the Hamburg Fire Service said that 17 people were injured with injuries that give them life. Six others had serious injuries, and the seven remakes had reported light injuries, the German news agency DPA.

Police said a 39 -year -old woman, a German citizen, was arrested on the scene without placing resistance and believes after watching video images that acted alone. They secured the knife.

There was no immediate indication of any political reason, and the investigators were investigating whether the suspect could have been mentally ill, said police spokesman Florian Abbenseth.

A high -speed ice train with its open doors was still on the platform after the attack, but Abbenseth said it was not a crime scene.

Deutsche Bahn’s rail operator said he was “deeply surprised” by the attack. Four tracks at the station closed on Friday night, and some long -lasting trains were delayed or diverted.

Wearing weapons, including knives, is prohibited at the station and in local transport in Hamburg.

Friedrich Merz Chancellor’s office said the German leader was horrified by the news and told the mayor of Hamburg, Peter Tschentscher, in a call on Friday night, said that “my thoughts are with the victims and their relatives.”
