Xi and Putin unite against ‘power politics’ amid Trump’s trade war

The Chinese president, Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, for formal conversations on Thursday for the first time since President Donald Trump exacerbated the US trade war-China last month.

In a statement at the top of the meeting, XI promised to support his “anti-western power policy” and “intimidation on the international stage.”

“Eighty years ago, the peoples of China and Russia made tremendous sacrifices to ensure a great victory, contributing an indelible chapter to the cause of world peace and human progress,” Xi said, according to the post of southern China.

“Today, in the face of unilateral recoil flows and acts of power and harassment policy on the international stage, China will join Russia to destroy our special responsibilities as main countries and permanent members of the UN Security Council,” he added.
