The journalist Alex Thompson called on the press for not adequately informing about the decline of former President Joe Biden at the White House correspondents on Saturday.

Thompson, axios reporter, accepted the associations of the correspondents of the White House Aldo Beckman Award for general excellence in the White House coverage. His report closely documented the disastrous performance of Biden debate against President Donald Trump, the events prior to it, and Biden is the decision to get out of the race. In his acceptance speech, Thompson acknowledged that the press fell short in covering the history of the Decline of Biden.

“Being the accountants of the truth also that mean telling the truth about our works.

He added: “The decline of President Biden and his cover -up of the people around him is a reminder that each White House, regardless of the party, is capable of deception.”

After the retirement of Biden from the race, several journalists admitted that the president’s health had not analyzed enough. The concerns increased after Biden’s debate performance, when the spectators noticed their divagating responses and their hoarse voice.

Thompson said that the failure of the means of investigation to investigate and inform more aggressively about the condition of Biden contributed to the growing public distrust of journalism.

“Some people trust us less because that,” he said. “We have some responsibility for faith in the media in such minimums. I say this because recognizing errors generates trust, and the defensive bee over them erodes even more.”

He concluded with a marked admission: “We should have done it better.”

October 2024 Gallup surveys reflects the erosion of confidence in US institutions, including the press. Only 31% of Americans reported having had a “large amount” or a “fair amount” of confidence in the media to report the news accurately.

Thompson’s comments come in the midst of broader conversations about the responsibility of the media. Earlier this year, the CEO of NPR, Katherine Maher, testified to Congress, admitting that the organization badly handled its coverage in the history of the Hunter biden laptop in the 2020 elections.

“I want to say that NPR acknowledges that we look at not covering the history of the Hunter biden laptop more aggressively and before,” Maher told the legislators. He later described the lack of coverage as an “error.”
