Cince de Mayo parade canceled in Chicago amid strict immigration enforcement

May 5 in Chicago will be canceled this year due to fear of a strict application of immigration, said a local event organizer.

According to the reports, the Cermak Road Chamber of Commerce, which announced Thursday that they are canceling the event, said the Mexican community in Chicago is concerned about the immigration and customs control of the United States (ICE).

“Our people are afraid,” said Héctor Escobar, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Casa Puebla and Cermak Road, to an ABC local affiliate.

Escobar is used to say: “Look, some of them, do not want to go to work and some of them, have high -risk tasks. And, it is not much to celebrate.”

The incoming border tsar also warned that the mayor of Chicago Brandon Johnson would be prosecuted if it obstructs ICE mass deportation efforts.

“Our community is very displaced due to the raids and the threat that ICE has imposed on families who work tirelessly to provide a better future for their children,” said Escobar in a statement obtained by CBS. “Our community has faced bullying and prosecution and are not indulgence in community activities, therefore, we believe there is nothing to celebrate.”

Escobar did not promote a comment request.

In addition, federal legislators pressed Johnson and others, federal legislators who supported the city and other sanctuary to explain their policies last month.
