Power was restored to more than 98% of customers on Friday after a blackout throughout the island hit Puerto Rico earlier this week, authorities said.
More than 1.45 million customers had electricity less than 48 hours after the interruption coup, according to Luma Energy, which supervises the transmission and distribution of energy on the island.

Luma warned that “some clients can continue to experience temporary interruptions due to limited generation.”
Governor Jenniffer González said that all those affected by the blackout had restored energy, and that the more than 21,400 customers without electricity on Friday were the result of other unidentified problems.

“Obviously, Luma still has a job to do,” he said. “It’s a shame for our people … that we have such an insufficient and mediocre system.”
Normally, a couple of thousands of customers are temporarily without every week in Puerto Rico for several reasons.
González said that more than 98% of customers also had water.
“We have overcome, thank God, a great crisis this week,” he said.
The blackout that hit Wednesday afternoon occurred after a transmission line failed and then caused the generators through the island to go out protecting, the authorities said. He also left more than 400,000 customers without water at that time.

It was not immediately clear what the failure caused, although the authorities are investigating whether a series of switches failed or if the covered vegetation is the fault.
González said he hoped to receive a preliminary report in the next few days.
It is the second mass blackout to hit Puerto Rico in less than four months. The previous one happened on the eve of the New Year.
