The representative Henry Cuellar is rejecting his own party about his position on immigration, criticizing other Democrats for defending an illegal immigrant that the Trump administration is a violent member of the MS-13 gang.
“This is not the right issue to talk about due process. This is not the right case. This is not the right person to say that we need to bring it back to the United States,” said Cúellar, D-Texas, “The Brian Kilmade Show” in Fox News.
Cuellar referred to Kilmar Abrego García, an illegal 29 -year -old immigrant deported in March to a prison in El Salvador. The Trump administration alleges that Abrego García is affiliated with the violent MS-13 gang and publicized judicial documents for a protection order of his wife. Some Democrats argue that due process was denied and that they demand their return.
Jennifer Vásquez Sura, Abrego García’s wife, said in a recent statement that he had been acting as a precaution when looking for a protection order.
“After surviving domestic violence in a previous relationship, I acted as a precaution after a disagreement with Kilmar when looking for a civil protection order, in case things intensify,” he said in part. “Things did not intensify, and I decided not to follow the civil court. We seem able to overcome the situation in private as a family, even going to advice.”
Cuellar said to make Abrego García the face of immigration defense damages the credibility of the parties with voters.

“Democrats should not take this issue,” said Cuellar. “When you look at immigration, this is the case of immigration in which you want to take to fight? In my opinion, absolutely not.”
Democratic legislators are challenging administration deportation policies, including flights that send criminal migrants suspended back to Central America. Several legislators have traveled to El Salvador to advocate for the release of Abrego García and have requested a daily life test.

Abrego García illegally crossed the border of the United States, but then tried to obtain a protected legal status while living in Maryland.
His deportation of 2025 was described in the Court as an administrative error. However, some Trump officials say the elimination was justified, citing their alleged gang links.
Cuellar, whose southern Texas district includes a substantial Latin population, said the frustration of constituents about what they see as an inconsistent and unfair immigration system is growing.

“People said,” our parents arrived in the legal way. They entered, they became legal residents “and” they entered and did so correctly. “But when you see people jump, without knowing who they are,” he said. “That’s wrong.”
Cuellar also expressed his support for certain border policies of the Trump era, partly regarding security and application. He dismissed the previous democratic claims that the border was safe.

“It was ridiculous when they said the border was assured,” he said. “Why are we going to let people in when you have no idea who these people are, and then let them wander through the streets of the United States while waiting for four or five years for a hearing in the immigration court? That was wrong, absolutely wrinkled.”
While Cuellar said he would not judge other Democrats for his elections, he questioned the broader strategy of the immigration party and pointed out that some of the Trump administration policies were having an impact.

“The president has made Mexico involve much more, if they can make defense play in their line of less than 20 yards instead of our 1 yard line called American border, then it will be better,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration continues to face legal challenges about its immigration agenda. The Supreme Court will listen to a case in May that involves federal judges who blocked an executive order aimed at ending the citizenship of birth law for children of illegal immigrants.
