Governor Ron Desantis On Monday he signed two bills aimed at carrying out the directive of President Donald Trump to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of AmericaAccording to the Florida Senate.
One of the bills (HB 575) will change the boxes of state laws to reflect the name change, while the other (HB 549) will require that state agencies update “geographical materials” to reflect the change.
In addition, it will require that the school instructional materials or purchases such as or on July 1 include the name of the Gulf of America.
The Senate controlled by the Republicans approved the bills last week, after being approved by the Chamber. The Senate issued a press release on Monday night, with Senator Nick Diceglie, R-Indian Rocks Beach, saying that he joined Desantis to see the signed law projects.
“Florida is proud to follow the leadership of President Trump as the first state to recognize the Gulf of America,” said Diceglie, who sponsored one of the bills in the Senate, in a prepared statement.
“American exceptionalism is not an abstract idea, it is an absolute fact that we must recognize and celebrate. In Florida, we will always put the United States first.”
