The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is investigating “an important pediatric teaching hospital” about the alleged dismissal of a nurse who sought a religious exemption to avoid administering puberty blockers and intermediaries to children.
“The department will comply with robust and federal laws that protect the complainants of thesis values, including laws that protect health professionals from being forced to violate their religious beliefs or moral convictions,” HHS interim.
Although HHS has not confirmed the identity of the hospital, it is believed to be the Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), the largest children’s hospital in the United States, since the investigation follows the Whistlebower Vanessa Sivadge Hill nurse. Sivadge appeared publicly for the first time in June 2024 and was then fired in August 2024.

In his testimony, Sivadge said federal agents arrived at their home by investigating the complainant, now known for being Haim, due to their objections to transgender medicine. She described the interaction as intimidating and said that one of the special agents “effective asked me to compromise my Christian beliefs and made auctioned threats regarding my career and security if I did it fulfilling their demands.”

According to the complaint, TCH “temporarily” stopped “services that affirm the genre” for minors after Texas Attorney Ken Paxton said in February 2022 that these treatments could constitute child abuse. Sivadge publicly flew the whistle on TCH on June 18, 2024, and should not inform work the next day, according to the complaint. TCH alleged that the termination of his employment was due to improper access to medical records.
On January 28, 2025, President Donald Trump signed the order to “protect children from chemical and surgical mutilation”, which prevents minors from undergoing transgender treatments. According to this order, HHS has issued guidelines for possible complainants.
