The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) pointed out that half or its DC headquarters is being used after the agencies building was added to a list of federal properties marked for sale by the Trump administration on Thursday.
The HUD headquarters became the first important federal agency building that will be added to the list of general services administration of “assets identified for the accelerated disposition” in the midst of the efforts of the Republican Party to lose weight of the Government’s real estate portfolio and potentially relocate the headquarters of the agency outside the capital of the country.
Simultaneously, Democrats have tasks to block these efforts, even through the introduction of legislation in Congress.
Last month, the GSA retracted a list of 440 “non -basic” assets, including HUD headquarters and more than a boxes from other federal buildings that had initially listed for sale or elimination, according to the Federal News Network. Subsequently, the GSA published a new list, but HUD is the first headquarters of the first executive agency that is included.

President Donald Trump campaigned to relocate federal agencies outside the capital of the nations in 2024 as part of his broader efforts to clean the waste, lose weight to the federal government and “dismantle the deep state.”
Earlier this week, Trump signed an executive order that rescues two previous executive actions placed in force under the Carter and Clinton administrations, which the president said in his directive “prevented the agencies from being relocated to lower cost facilities.” The Trump directive also points out that when approaching the federal agencies closer to the people they serve, instead of being centrally located in the capital of the nation, it will help the most successful departments to carry out their missions.
“The HUD approach is to create a workplace that reflects the values of efficiency, responsibility and purpose,” Hud Scott Turner’s secretary said Thursday. “We are committed to government operations and ensure that our facilities support an optimal performance and exceptional service as we collaborate with our partners in GSA to offer results to the US people.”
