Rights activists and some legal scholars condemn the law, arguing that you get angry in the expression of LGBTQ+.

The Hungarian Parliament has approved a constitutional amendment that allows the Government to prohibit all public events organized by LGBTQ+groups.

Approved on Monday, the amendment formalizes a law presented earlier this year that prohibits such meetings, including Budapest’s annual march.

It is seen by critics as another authoritarian shake by the right -wing government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor.

Human rights activists and some legal scholars have condemned the law, arguing that it is effective to criminalize LGBTQ+ expression in public spaces.

The Orban government has constantly argued that legislation defends traditional family values and protects children.

The amendment was approved with 140 votes in favor and 21 against, supported exclusively by the parliamentarians of the ruler Fidesz-KDNP coalition of Orban. Required a two -thirds majority to become law.

Before the legislative session, the legislators and opposition protesters tried to avoid access to the parking area of the Parliament. The protesters, who had tied with Tirolesase, were forced by the police.

The constitutional text reviewed states that the right of a child to moral, physical and spiritual development has priority over all rights, except the right to life. Critics say this phrase is destined to limit freedom of assembly.

The new amendment enters the “Child Protection” legislation of the Constitution, which prohibits “representation or promotion” or homosexuality to minors.

It also establishes that the Constitution recognizes two sexes, men and women, which adds to an anterior amendment that prohibits the adoption of same sex by insisting that a mother is a woman and a father is a man.

By granting this constitutional status law, the Government strengthens its legal basis and power protects it from future legal challenges, including those of European Union institutions.

Budapest Pride, who has attracted thousands in recent years, now faces uncertainty under the new framework. The organizers have not yet commented if the 2025 event will proceed.
