Ian Machado Garry beat Carlos Prates in a very anticipated Welter’s main weight event of UFC in Kansas City.
Ian Machado Garry survived a late scare of Carlos Prates, obtaining a unanimous decision in a recovery effort to limit the main Welter weight event in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Fight Night in Kansas City.
Garry won on the judges ‘score cards, 48-47, 48-47, 49-46, to end the undefeated PRates’ career in the UFC.
Garry had control of four of the five rounds on Saturday night, keeping presses outside the guard with superior movement, fakes, wrestling and surprising balance of balance in the octagon.
In the last minute of the fifth round, Prrates set up a furious return, trying a technical knockout (TKO) of the fifth round against his highest opponent. Prrates unleashed multiple blows against Garry on his feet and on the ground, but with both combatants who suffer from fatigue at the end of the fight, the Irish survived the deceased attack.
After the game, Garry said he did not vanish from the gust of fifth round of prrates.
“It didn’t hurt,” Garry said after he received the decision about Prrates. “I was aware at every moment. I know how dangerous that man is. I have nothing more than respect for what he and his team [The Fighting Nerds] do.”
Garry revealed that he is the official backup fighter of the fight for the Welter weight title of UFC 315 on May 10 among champion Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena.

In the main event of Saturday, Mingyang Zhang finished the Mixed Martial Arts career of Anthony Smith (MMA) in a sour note, defeating the former challenger of semi -tidy weight of UFC by TKO first round to 4 minutes and 3 seconds. Zhang landed a wave of blows and elbows to survive Nebraska’s native before the fight was canceled.
Despite the result, Smith said he was proud of what he had achieved about a race from top to bottom.
“I will be grateful to have happened,” Smith said in the octagon after the loss. “I appreciate you guys.”
Smith retired from MMA with 25 appearances in UFC, winning 13. Zhang (19-6 mma) has not yet seen the second round in any of his victories in his career, while Smith (37-22 MMA) finished his trip in a three-fight loser strak.
Saturday’s competition was the first UFC event in Kansas City since April 2023.
