Manchester United scored two goals in two minutes in the final stages of its quarterfinals of the Europa League with Lyon.
Harry Maguire said that the “craziest game” or his life summed up a Manchester United career upside down after scoring the winner in a 5-4 victory over Lyon to send his team to the semifinals of the Europa League.
After a 2-2 draw in the first leg, United seemed to be arriving at the last four when they led 2-0 in the part of Thursday.
Lyon defended himself at 2-2 before Corentin Tolisso has sent just before overtime.
However, the 10 men met 4-2 with only six minutes of extra time removering.
The penalty of Bruno Fernandes and the final fresco of Kobbie Mainoo were leveled in a noisy Old Trafford before Maguire was going after being sent as an impromptu striker.
Maguire, who joined United for a world record rate for a defender in 2019, has a lightning rod for criticism that joke his time with the Red Devils.
He went from being captain of the club to leave the team under Erik Ten Hag and has struggled to reach the best way despite being reinstated from Ruben Amorim Tok Charge.
“I have bone here six years and I have had some great moments. Some bad times too,” Maguire said.
“I think that game practically my time in this club, to be honest.
“It was an incredible feeling to score that winner in such an important game, in a game full of emotion and the strangest and craziest game in which I have played or witnessed.”
United Face Athletic Bilbao in the semifinals with the opportunity to save his season.
The men of Amorim feel 14th in the Premier League and will surely be completely lost European football unless they win the Europa League.
“We are only in the semifinal, so we do not want to get carried away in terms of winning the competition,” Maguire added.
“This season is so difficult for all involved, all fans, all players, staff.
“It is not good enough and it is not good enough and when you have moments like that, and memories that you think so, I think it is very important that fans go home with a smile on their faces.”
Athletic has lost less games in LaLiga this season than Barcelona or Real Madrid.
The Basques also have the additional motivation of organizing the final at their own San Mames stadium on May 21.
And Maguire knows that United should drastically improve his performances against Lyon if they are going to reach the final.
“We have to do it much better than that if we want to win this competition,” said England’s international.
“We cannot do that and leave it to turn it in that situation.
“But it shows a great spirit, struggle, union, and that is the only thing this group of boys is doing, they are giving everything.”
